The fishing season in the Azores is practically over, but not because of the lack of fish. After one of the best blue marlin seasons ever from August to October, right now in mid-November, there are still plenty of large bigeye and yellowfin tunas around and also large wahoos.
The amount of bait this year was something that none has seen before. We literally ran over baitfish for miles, so there are big reasons for these big game fish to stay here for quite a while still. In fact, there are no words that could describe how good this season has been where we basically did not catch fish only the days we were on land.
Fortunately, the previous predictions for this year were right. We mean, the marlin and tuna fishing in the Azores usually come in cycles and we are on the way up of the good years!
We are expecting a good season again for 2020 and because of that most of the anglers already left their next season booked. There are few prime dates left for the tuna and marlin season next year. For tuna, the last two weeks of May and the first of June are available while for marlin we only have available one week in mid-August and the last two weeks of September.
